Professor Hamish Campbell is a distinguished research leader at Charles Darwin University, where he has advanced innovation and collaboration since joining in 2016. In 2022, he founded the North Australia Centre for Autonomous Systems (NACAS) — a pioneering hub integrating emerging technologies across industries central to Australia’s economy and livelihoods.
Prof. Campbell leads a multi-disciplinary research program spanning spatial and environmental sciences, agriculture, primary health, engineering, aviation, artificial intelligence, and Indigenous studies — reflecting a systems-based approach to solving regional and global challenges.
Under his leadership, NACAS has built strong cross-sector partnerships, attracted significant external funding, and established world-class research infrastructure, including the Advanced Manufacturing Test Lab, Australia’s first UAV Airspace Integration Facility (AIR-F), and a High-Performance AI Data Centre.
Prof. Hamish Campbell is widely recognised for fostering high-performing research ecosystems, ensuring excellence in governance and integrity, and contributing nationally as a grant assessor and evaluator. His achievements have earned him multiple awards for research excellence and strategic partnerships.
